Joint Commission standards address the hospital’s performance in specific areas, and specify requirements to ensure that patient care is provided in a safe manner and in a secure environment. The Joint Commission develops its standards in consultation with health care experts, providers and researchers, as well as measurement experts, purchasers and consumers. The most recent Joint Commission survey was completed in March, 2020.

AccreditationThe SwedishAmerican Hospital EMS System Paramedic Program has adopted the standards and guidelines for accreditation through the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Our paramedic program was the second accredited program in Illinois in 2012 with continuing accreditation awarded in January, 2017. The next cycle of review will occur in 2022. CAAHEP regularly monitors our program's compliance with outcomes assessment thresholds through our program's Annual Report. American Heart Association
SwedishAmerican Hospital EMS System has been an American Heart Association Training Center since 1995 offering a variety of courses such as CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
The American Heart Association is the world leader in training and education for CPR. Our Training Center offers a variety of options for learning these lifesaving skills including family and friends, employees, and healthcare providers. Our instructors offer in-person classroom training and skill sessions. To learn more or register for a class please contact us at 779-696-6082. Winnebago County Safe Kids Coalition
Safe Kids Winnebago County is led by SwedishAmerican Hospital, which provides dedicated and caring staff, operation support, and other resources to assist in achieving our common goal: keeping your kids safe.
Based on local needs this coalition implements evidence-based programs such as car seat checks, safety workshops, sports clinics, and other activities that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.
