Joint Commission standards address the hospital’s performance in specific areas and specify requirements to ensure that patient care is provided in a safe manner and in a secure environment. The Joint Commission develops its standards in consultation with health care experts, providers and researchers, as well as measurement experts, purchasers and consumers. The most recent Joint Commission survey was completed in March 2023.

AccreditationThe SwedishAmerican Hospital EMS System Paramedic Program has adopted the standards and guidelines for accreditation through the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Our paramedic program was the second accredited program in Illinois in 2012 with continuing accreditation awarded in January, 2017. The current cycle of reaccreditation is pending review in 2024. The next cycle of review will occur in 2029. CAAHEP regularly monitors our program's compliance with outcomes assessment thresholds through our program's Annual Report. The results of our 2022 annual report were: Retention of Students: 89.5% Positive Job Placement:- 100% National Registry/State Exam: 100% |

SwedishAmerican Hospital EMS System has been an American Heart Association Training Center since 1995 offering a variety of courses such as CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
The American Heart Association is the world leader in training and education for CPR. Our Training Center offers a variety of options for learning these lifesaving skills including family and friends, employees, and healthcare providers.
